How to get better grades?
Good results and better grades are obtained with the adequate motivation that facilitates the effort involved in studying. Think about the reasons you have to study. The more valuable, the better.
Do not worry that much if you don’t feel like studying, very few enjoy the habit of studying. For many others it seems that studying is not their thing. But relax, even if you do not enjoy studying certain tips can help you have better results in your degree.
So, here we got seven tips that will help any student to have better grades!
As mentioned above, without the willingness to study, there is nothing to do to get better grades. You may think that many other things are more fun, but you are playing the future! You decide what you will be the rest of your life, so keep that in mind, the reasons you have to study are decisive!
The motive has to come out of you. Prizes and punishments may be effective, but in the long run, they are not decisive. If you have the will then you will commit to your studies.
You will have heard people say “you don’t know how to study”. Well they may be right! There are many ways to do it, many books, websites, the help of a teacher, your parents; but deep down, everything is common sense.
The way to learn how to study is by trying different techniques but first you must get to know those techniques. Then you will see which systems are best for you.
So, if you want to learn something, read about it, now it is on you to find which technique can suit you better!!!
Time & Place! The most basic
You need a tidy study place, where everything is at hand, with a comfortable chair and enough light. Try some of these productivity tips for the home office. Better if there is no music! no TV! Sorry but music is a bad idea if you really need to focus. You can draw or copy … but you will not memorize, understand or concentrate 100%. If you must, try something like Brain.fm, music to improve focus.
Do not get up every moment! Persevere studying for at least 45 minutes. Then rest 5-10 minutes and continue. Also a schedule is a good idea. It does not have to be rigid, it must be flexible, but it is normal for students to spend between half an hour and an hour to do their homework and three quarters or an hour to study.
Take advantage of time and then you can do many other activities.
In class, take notes!
It’s silly to waste time in class. If you take advantage of that time, you will have much advancement. If, for some reason, they leave you free time, study! Advance homework!
The teacher may follow the book: in that case, take notes of what he says, of what he insists on. Stay tuned and take note on everything you can, with common sense. Underline what the professor repeats, what he considers to be basic or important.
To get better grades, review what you have written – you don’t need to clean it up – but make the subject clear so that you understand it, now and within a few months. If you have missed a class or have incomplete notes, always ask a classmate.
Understand rather than Memorize
In most of the subjects, you will have to memorize the contents of the lessons. But do not try to learn something you do not understand! Each person has their system to fix the lessons in memory: read it aloud, review it several times and try to repeat it without looking at the text, put color in your notes, etc …
The important thing to get better grades, is to understand the topic that way you will remember it.
Keep in mind that you only know a topic if you can explain it!
Studying when the exam comes is a huge mistake. If you study every day when the time comes for the exam you just have to review knowledge already acquired, remember what you already know. If you leave everything to the end, you will end up with your head full of formulas, definitions, dates, … chaos!!!
Now the exams are in many different types: each one must be prepared differently. But always an auto examination will give you good results.
Sleep well the night before the exam – or you will pay dearly. This way you will avoid nervousness and tiredness. Moreover, it is not good to comment with colleagues just before starting the test: you will only be able to convince yourself that you are not well prepared and you will get even more nervous.
Read the questions carefully before launching to answer, even make a small scheme mentally. If possible, answer the easiest questions first and leave the ones you don’t know well. This is especially important in problems of mathematics, physics, translations … Many times you spend all the time you have to do a problem and leave the rest blank.
Check the results, the units, the spelling. Do not rush to deliver, use all the time you have. Do it with great care and review the calculations, you will likely be asked for the exact results, and it will not be enough that the solution is well-posed.
Never give up
If despite of everything you don’t get good results, don’t give up!
Courage! Everything has a solution in this life! Think about what your mistakes are as a student, be constant. The results take time to arrive, and the failures serve to gain experience, not to regret.
Ask for advice from someone with experience, take a test of study techniques and improve your methods as a student.
You may have personal problems that did not help you concentrate. Accept it and look for a solution, although it is often not easy. Try disconnecting from any personal problem when you have to study.
There is no pressure, you play your future yes, but everybody has their own time.
